The Moon is the only natural satellite of Earth and the 5th largest satellite in the solar system. It is approximately 238,857 miles from the Earth and completes orbit every 27.3 days. As the Moon orbits Earth only parts of it are visible, these parts are called phases. The phases are The New Moon, crescent, first quarter, waxing gibbus, full moon, waning gibbus and last quarter. American Astronauts landed on the moon for the first time in 1969, on NASA's Apollo 11 mission.
